If you’re anything like me then you know, it’s never too late to start up a tradition – especially when it involves the holidays! The food, music, shopping – you name it, I love it all! Whether you’re looking for a holiday getaway or needing a little extra holiday cheer with friends on the weekend, we have more than enough to keep you busy. And like they say, ‘Tis the Season for Giving’ – so I’m giving you 7 of my favorite holiday events in Mason City that you should make an annual tradition.
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…
Kick off the holidays with the Holiday Premier of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas” at the Music Man Square on November 16th. Share in the holiday spirits and experience nostalgia and warm memories of Christmas past. You’ll enjoy the sights and sounds of the season as you stroll the 1912 Streetscape adorned with window displays, décor and holiday music. This year’s Scandinavian theme with feature live Nordic folk music! DETAILS
The celebration continues all holiday season at the Music Man Square, November 17-December 29. The Holiday display, open Tuesday-Saturday features beautiful holiday decor and music by composer and Mason City native, Meredith Willson. DETAILS
Home for the Holidays
Celebrate, Downtown! Main Street Mason City invites you to bring the entire family to celebrate ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’! Kick off the day with a 5K run…a ‘Rum with Rudolph’ 5k run/walk that is! Participants will have a blast running around downtown, Mason City with their friends and family. Included in your registration are a stocking cap, a cup of hot coco with rum chata (must be 21+) and for those first 100 who cross the finish line will receive a bag full of goodies from downtown merchants. Later in the afternoon families will enjoy cookie decorating, storybook readings, letters to Santa, shopping and much more! Plus, don’t miss the lighting of the tree, and if you’re a youngin’, you can enter to be the 2018 official tree lighter! The lighting of the tree and much more all happening, Saturday, November 24. Jingle Mingle Bar Hop
If you’re 21+, don’t miss the Jingle Mingle Bar Hop on Saturday, November 24. Drink specials and a ton of fun is guaranteed as you hop from each of the participating establishments… And if you want to be really festive – like myself, make sure to wear your ugly Christmas sweater and post your pictures using the hashtag #MasonCityIA DETAILS
The Holiday Cannonball
As you’re driving through town looking at all of the Christmas lights, you have to put the Holiday Cannonball 457 on your list. The Cannonball 457 located in East Park, transforms into the ‘Holiday Cannonball’ every December – dressed in its full holiday attire and complete with over 500 Christmas lights! DETAILS
Broadway Christmas
There’s no better way to celebrate Christmas than seeing it come to life on stage! Each year the NIACC Performing Arts Series offers great Christmas shows for all ages to enjoy. This year’s performances include:

- December 14 – Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
- December 20 – Diamond Rio Holiday & Hits

Holiday MacNider Off the Clock!
Live music by Sam Crosser, complimentary wine and appetizers are available during the Museum’s ‘Holiday Off the Clock’ event. The annual, free event invites visitors to explore the museums galleries and mingle with one another in a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Art exhibits are always changing so whether you’re a repeat visitors or a first time museum goer, there will be something new for you to see. DETAILS
Just Hear Those Sleigh Bells Jingling, Ring-Ting-Tingling, too
Listen to all of your favorite Christmas Carols performed by (over) 100 tuba, Sousaphone, baritone and euphonium musicians from across the state. Performance takes place Saturday, December 8th at the Southbridge Mall. DETAILS
