Big Valentine’s Day plans? Dinner and a movie? How original. Time to say adios to the mundane date-night-out and try something new!
This is not your typical dinner-and-a-show but close enough, right? Kick off your date-day with food and magic at the Suzie Q Café
Now time for gifts… are you both comic nerds? Browse thru the selections at Oak Leaf Collectibles or Now & Then Comics, and buy something for the other you think they’d like. Not into comics? Mason City offers an array of unique and specialty stores – we know you’d like, CLICK HERE
And later in the evening, SURPRISE! Catch a show at the North Iowa Auditorium, this year’s performance features the Piano Men, a tribute to Elton John & Billy Joel on Friday, February 15! CLICK HERE to get your tickets!
The can’t-fail first date
Don’t let anyone ever tell you that first impressions don’t matter, because they do. And we’re here to help – so shake away those nerves and read below on how to do the “date-thing” right.
Observe art as you stroll the galleries and enjoy one another’s company in the relaxed atmosphere of the MacNider Art Museum
Keep things casual and grab a beer at Mason City Brewing – chat away, and just see where the night goes.
Are you both into sports? Head to the YMCA for a game of basketball or pickle ball, an easy way to let loose and get to know one another.
Go out for ice cream at Birdsall’s – a super ‘chill’ way to ask for that second date (if all goes well, of course)
Going solo? Friends night out!
Single this year? Don’t be down in the dumps, get your single friends together and spend the day doing something fun, a few ideas below:
Escape Iowa -Mason City, get a group of 4-5 people and try to escape River City! Just opened in January, 2019 and will be fun for everyone!
Brews & Cool Hangouts – grab a beer at Fat Hill Brewing, play board games and just hangout, who cares about the holiday of love, anyway?
Girls Day? – Get your girls together and spend the day pampering yourselves – mani, pedi & a massage?
NINE! Fellas, time for a round of golf at Off Season In-Door-Golf.
Budget friendly dates – ideas that won’t cost you a fortune
Is your wallet still suffering from the holidays ? I know mine is. Going out for dinner and entertainment may not be appealing. You can still enjoy your time with your significant other without breaking the bank.
An affordable bite to eat – the meal doesn’t need to be expensive to taste good – try one of my favorites Taco Tico or Z’Mariks Noodle Cafe.
OR, skip going out to eat and dish up a home cooked meal, and surprise your S/O with a sweet treat from Grandma Sugars Cupcakery for dessert.
Give the gift of creating memories with a photo-shoot scavenger hunt, right here in the River City – take fun pictures in front of the murals downtown, with the sculptures, and the heart rock in East Park.
Be Tasteful – restaurants that create the best night out
If you and your date are foodies, this one’s for you! We know that planning a special evening with your S/O is priority number one… and, what says “I love you” more than yummy food? You’ll have no problem finding a restaurant that will impress – the hard choice will be deciding which one to choose, below are a few favorites:
1910 Grille
Northwestern Steakhouse
Pasta Bella
Prime ‘N Wine
Thia Bistro & Sushi Bar
The Quarry
