Lester Milligan Park

South Pierce Avenue
Mason City, IA 50401

Located on South Pierce Avenue on the southwest side of Mason City, Lester Milligan Park was used for 90 years by the Brick and Tile Co. as a quarry area for the production of brick and clay tile products. The land was deeded over to the city in 1977 and developed into a park in 1981. In 1990, Pierce Avenue was extended to 15th Street SW, splitting the park’s two fishing ponds, Pierce Pond and Big Blue (stocked in the winter with lake trout). Nearly 2 miles of scenic walking, hiking, and biking trails are also available. The park includes a shelter house complete with electricity, water, and restrooms which was built with donations from the Kiwanis Club. Amenities include a playground area, swimming beach (no lifeguard), fishing dock, canoe access, charcoal grills, picnic tables, shelter, restrooms, and hard surface trails. The main entrance is on South Pierce Avenue.
