STATE EVALUATION CRITERIA & SURVEY GUIDE

ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • Projected Visitor Attendance & Hotel Rooms (refer to applicant response to questions 7 & 8)
  • Attendance History from past events, if applicable
  • Estimated Impact using average daily spending formula (refer to staff estimate at end of application)

LEVERAGED FUNDS

  • Consider the proportion of state funds to total funds in the application (refer to applicant response to question 4)
  • State will view favorably a greater rate of financial participation from entities other than the state of Iowa

NOVELTY & QUALITY

  • Is this event new to Iowa? (refer to applicant response to question 2)
  • If not new to Iowa, is the event recently improved, enhanced or enlarged?

EVENT SIZE & SCOPE

  • Consider the length of the event – one day, two day, etc. (refer to applicant response to question 1)
  • Total attendance and number of hotel rooms utilized  (refer to applicant response to questions 7 & 8)
  • State will view favorably a project with a larger total budget  (refer to applicant response to question 4)

FINANCIAL NEED

  • State will recognize the importance of funding events that would not take place without assistance under the program (refer to applicant response to question 4)
  • State will view favorably nonprofessional sporting events that have never before been funded under the program or under another state program (refer to applicant response to question 5)
