OFF-SITE ACTIVITIES

In addition to hosting great events such as the PGI 2018 Convention, Mason City  and the surrounding area are home to some very unique attractions and experiences

  • The only remaining Frank Lloyd Wright-designed hotel is located right here, in Mason City! Mr. Wright designed 6 hotels in his lifetime and only 4 were built. Our Historic Park Inn is the last one standing. Reopened in 2011 after a 20 million dollar restoration, it is definitely a site to see! Guided tours are available.
  • Mason City is also home to The Music Man! Composer, Meredith Willson, was born and raised in Mason City. In addition to writing the world-famous Broadway musical, Willson made many significant contributions to the world of music. His legacy lives on at the Music Man Square which houses a replica streetscape from the movie set as well as a museum bursting with musical history, movie clips, instruments, a large collection of Willson’s personal belongings and great stories as well.
  • More Hollywood History can be found at our Charles H. MacNider Art Museum – home to the largest collection of Bil Baird puppets and marionettes. A Mason City native, Baird also made his way to New York City and a name for himself on Broadway. His famous works – including the marionettes from the Sound of Music – are on permanent display at the MacNider which also houses a very impressive collection of American Art and the fun and interactive Imagination Playground.

Many other great experiences, including delicious dining and wonderful shopping options can be found right here in “River City.”

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers will be on-site to provide you with helpful information and resources during your stay. Be sure to stop by our Visitor Information Booth, located within PGI Registration at the convention site… or the Mason City Visitor Center, located at 2021 4th Street SW. We look forward to seeing you!
